Manufacture of Graphistrength® multiwall carbon nanotubes

Arkema has developed in its laboratories and in collaboration with universities a continuous process for the synthesis of multiwall carbon nanotubes for the large-scale manufacture of products with good quality consistency and perfect reproducibility.

  • Synthesis process

Arkema uses a continuous synthesis process based on Catalytic Chemical Vapor Deposition (CCVD) in a fluidized bed type reactor. Nanotubes grow on iron particles.

This produces a black powder with characteristics that are perfectly controlled and stable over time.

  • A green process

Arkema is testing on a pilot scale the use of agricultural ethanol as a source of carbon for the production of its Graphistrength® multiwall carbon nanotubes. Future production will be based on this raw material of renewable origin.
